In this project we had to draw a city in perspective. However, the city could not be made of just buildings, it had to be creative. The first step to make this drawing was to make a list of 10 ideas that could make an interesting city. We then please picked our two favorite ideas from the list. I chose to work with nature and candy. After that, we found reference pictures and created four compositional sketches for each idea. After looking at my sketches I decided that I wanted my final to be based off of candy.
Out of all the projects that we have done so far, this one has been my favorite. In my opinion I thought it was much easier than all of the cutting and carving because if you made a mistake, it could easily be erased. With all the other projects it was so pressured because if you made a mistake, there really wasn't a way to fix it. I feel as though this project was a little bit more relaxed.
Also, I liked the new technique of drawing in perspective. I found it to be a fairly simple concept to grasp and once I understood it, there weren't any conflicts I ran into while drawing. The only difficulty I had was drawing my billboard in perspective. I was just a little confused on how the letters were supposed to be aligned.
All in all, I think this project was fairly successful on my part. I think the way the labels turned out on my candy buildings because I thought they were close to the real things. Also I liked the composition of my buildings and how colorful it turned out. I enjoyed doing this project and hope to do another one similar to this.
