The idea of this project was fairly simple, just paint a landscape. What I didn't realize was how we we had to create so many different shade and values using only three colors. First we had to learn about the color wheel and how to create all those shades, tints, and values. After we practiced a bit, I think I kind of got the hang out it and was able to these things with adequacy.
The most difficult thing in this project for me was showing texture. For example, when I was painting my rocks, I didn't know how to show that they were actually rocks and not just a big purplish looking blob in my foreground. I asked Mrs. Rossi how to accomplish the look of rocks and she said to just draw shapes using different values. I started to this and they started to look slightly more realistic. Painting the clouds also had this sort of problem for me.
I am glad that we were able to practice making different colors on a worksheet first. This helped me to get a better feel for paints and get more comfortable with it. That really helped prepare me for doing this project.
I am glad that I was able to try using this new medium because I actually enjoyed it slot. Out of all the things we worked on this year, using paint was by far my favorite. I hope to try using other types of paint as well.
I do like the way that my project turned out and I hope to be able to work on more canvases in my future.
